How Etsy fees work in 2026
Etsy doesn’t take one fee — it takes a stack of five. Here’s each one in plain language; for the deeper version with edge cases, see our full guide to Etsy fees.
- Listing fee — $0.20 per item. Charged when you publish a listing and again every time it sells or renews. It’s in USD worldwide and it is not refundable — you pay it whether or not the item ever sells.
- Transaction fee — 6.5%. Etsy’s main cut. It applies to the full amount the buyer pays you: item price plus shipping plus gift wrap plus personalization. This catches a lot of sellers off guard — yes, Etsy takes 6.5% of the shipping you charge, too.
- Payment processing fee. Charged by Etsy Payments to move the money. In the US it’s 3% + $0.25 per order. Rates differ by country (the UK is 4% + £0.20, most of the EU is 4% + €0.30).
- Offsite Ads fee — 12% or 15%. If Etsy advertises your listing off-site (Google, Instagram, etc.) and that ad leads to a sale, Etsy charges an ads fee on that order. It’s 15% for sellers who’ve made over $10,000 in the last 365 days (this tier is mandatory — you can’t opt out) and 12% for sellers under that threshold (optional — you can turn it off). You only pay it when an offsite ad actually produces a sale.
- Regulatory operating fee. A small country-specific surcharge Etsy adds in certain markets (UK, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and others) to cover local regulatory costs like digital services taxes. US sellers don’t pay it.

Now add your product cost. If those materials and labor cost you $12, your net profit is $19.22 — and your real margin on the $35 order is about 55%, not the “I sold it for $30” math most sellers do in their head.
If that same sale had come through an offsite ad at 15%, Etsy would also take 0.15 × $35.00 = $5.25, dropping your net payout to $25.97 and your take rate to 25.8%.
Where the offsite ads 12% vs 15% fee applies (the $10K / 365-day rule)
Offsite Ads is the fee most calculators ignore, and it’s the one that moves your margin the most.
- Etsy buys ads for your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bing.
- You only pay when an offsite ad leads directly to a sale — not for clicks, not for browsing.
- If your shop has made $10,000 or more in the trailing 365 days, you’re in Offsite Ads at 15%, and it’s mandatory — you cannot opt out.
- If your shop is under $10,000 in the trailing 365 days, you’re in at 12%, and it’s optional — you can switch it off in your shop settings.
- The fee is also capped at $100 per order (so a single big-ticket sale won’t get an unlimited ad bill).

How to lower your Etsy fees
We won’t tell you to “avoid the transaction fee” — you can’t, and anyone selling that is selling snake oil. Here’s what actually moves the number.
The 6.5% transaction fee hits shipping too, so there’s no fee dodge by splitting it out. But free shipping over $35 helps your search ranking, which can be worth more than the fee math, so price shipping into the item carefully. If you’re under $10K/year and your own marketing is bringing buyers, turn off optional Offsite Ads. When most of your sales are repeat customers or come from your own social, the 12% optional fee may not pay for itself.
Watch the flat fees too. Every renewal on a dead listing is another $0.20, so audit listings that never sell. And a $4 item gets crushed by the $0.20 listing + $0.25 processing flat fees — that’s over 11% before the percentage fees even start. Selling it as part of a $20 bundle spreads those flat fees across more revenue.
Last, know your true margin before you discount. Most “sales” that feel like wins are break-even once fees and COGS are counted. A calculator that includes your cost of goods stops you from running an unprofitable promo.
